2 Rue Viguerie - Toulouse

The Gala Dinner will take place in the magnificent "Salles des Colonnes" of the "Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Jacques" in the city center of Toulouse on the edge of the "Garonne".

Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Jacques

Long owned by the Hospital of Toulouse, the “Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Jacques” has for eight centuries stood on the bank of the River Garonne, a perfect illustration of the dwellings that once served as stopping places on the road to St Jacques de Compostelle.

The “Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Jacques” developed from 1257 on the older location of two hospitals, that of Saint Marie of the Sea bream and that of the Hospital Novel. Confided to Bayles de la “Confrérie Saint-Jacques”, these two establishments separated by the Rue de l’Herbe, were combined in the only one, who took the name of “Hôpital Saint-Jacques”.

It develops to gradually become the “Hôtel-Dieu” in 1554. The place was a home for all the unfortunate, the beggars, the tramps, the whores and especially the pilgrims to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. The premises were also used look after the sick, but it was not its main objective.

Having undergone numerous enlargements in XVIIe S., the “Hôtel-Dieu” became in the XIXth and especially in the XXe S., a real healthcare and teaching center.

Classified as a “Historic Monument” and in the UNESCO World Heritage (road to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle), it is now the siege of the Administrative center of the Hospitals of Toulouse and accommodates the Museum of History of the Medicine.

Salle des Colonnes

The “Hôtel-Dieu” holds inside two magnificent rooms which serve as privileged places of receptions: the "Salle des Portraits" (or “Salle des Pelerins”) which pays tribute to the numerous benefactors, and the “Salle des Colonnes”, richly adorned with a French-style ceiling (XVIIth century).
